News Chat Moderator: Hey, everyone. Welcome to today’s chat. Dr. Hinojosa is available to answer your questions, so feel free to start asking!

From E-mail: From Norton Rosenthal: Tom Leppert ran for Mayor saying he wanted to partner with DISD, at the least, be a bully pulpit, if nothing else, for DISD; to support and help DISD in your goal to become the best urban school district in the country. My question is: since he was elected, have you talked to the Mayor, have you and Tom Leppert met? Any plans to get together on a regular basis? How can the city government help DISD? What help would you like to get from the city and its government?

Dr. Michael Hinojosa: I have met with Mayor Leppert three times since he got elected and none of those meetings were media events, which I appreciate. Mayor Leppert spent two hours on a Sunday evening at my executive leadership team retreat outlining specific ideas how we could collaborate. More details will be available in the coming months but I am excited about continuing to partner with the city

(DBB Note: Why is the Dallas ISD Superintendent having secret/private meetings with the elected Mayor of Dallas without the prior knowledge and approval of the full elected Board of Trustees? The appropriate body for an elected Mayor to meet with or to discuss official school district business can only be the elected Board of Trustees of the District – not the appointed administrator in secret. This appears to be an improper end run around the elected Board of Trustees.)
